A Note from Farrell Ackerman
Four years after graduating from CLS, I graduated from SLC
(Sarah Lawrence College) and then went on to the University of
California, Berkeley for a PhD in Theoretical Linguistics. During my
graduate career, I studied at the University of Zagreb, Yugoslavia,
University of Helsinki, Finland and spent 4 years doing research at the
Hungarian Academy of Sciences and teaching at several different
Hungarian Universities. I returned to the States, finished my
degree and got a job at University of California, San Diego,
where I am presently a professor in the linguistics department and a
faculty member in the programs on Law and Society, Human Development,
and Cognitive Science. I've been married for 16 years and have two
children.
It amazes me that so much time can be summed up so briefly. It also
saddens me that this brief update is too late to apprise Baz of what
I've been doing all these years: unknown to him is the fact that
my thesis is dedicated to him and Bill Dalton (a former CLS faculty
member who should be listed in the directory) in appreciation of the
support and understanding they showed me when I needed it most.
I've often thought of CLS over the years and wondered what happened
to those I knew and lamented the absence of a way to find out what
happened to them. I'm enormously grateful to those of you who took
the time to make this forum available. And I hope to hear from
those missing persons sometime soon.
