Photos from The recent US Open Tennis tournament where George Clarke, CLS '68, was a special guest. The first day opening ceremonies honored Althea Gibson, an African American first to win a major tennis tournament. This gala event featured all of the African American Women who were first in their fields. Some of the women honored were May Jemison - the first African American woman Astronaut, Niki Giavoni - Poet, Lynette Woodard - first woman to play on a professional male Basketball team (The Harlem Globe Trotters) and many others. |
